Two of our drinks books listed in Gourmand’s favourites from the ‘Best of the Best’

We are delighted that not one, but two, of our titles have been listed in a personal favourite list of drinks books amongst Gourmand International’s prestigious ‘Best of the Best’ winners from the last 30 years by the awards’ founder.

Both Jane Anson’s Inside Bordeaux, which was named ‘Best in the World: Best of the Best’ in the Gourmand Awards 2021, and Exploring & Tasting Wine, which was named ‘Best in the World – Wine Books’ in 2017, are included in ‘A Few of my Favourite Books’ by Gourmand World Cookbook Awards founder Edouard Cointreau.

Mr Cointreau has chosen a selection of books from 80 countries and regions to celebrate 30 years of the Gourmand International World Book Awards, of which 19 were published in the UK. In addition to the two Segrave Foulkes titles, other books on the list were written by authors including Hugh Johnson, Jancis Robinson, Steven Spurrier and Nicholas Faith.

Personally, both Inside Bordeaux and Exploring & Tasting Wine are very dear to our hearts. The two books are very different in scale, but were both groundbreaking — and both the product of hugely productive and enjoyable teamwork.

Whether with a single author like Jane or the splendid BB&R Wine School team (at the time Rebecca Lamont, Anne McHale, Barbara Drew), it’s working intensively with such exceptional people, along with our design director Lizzie Ballantyne, that keeps us doing what we do.

Congratulations on 30 years, Gourmand Awards!

The Gourmand World Food and Drink Book Awards began in 1995; this year’s 30th anniversary event takes place in Portugal in June.
